Boise State Broncos Men's Basketball
Boise State Broncos men's basketball is a NCAA Division I program that competes in the Mountain West Conference. The team has a storied history, dating back to the 1930s, and has produced a number of talented players and coaches over the years.
One of the most notable eras in Broncos history was during the 1980s and 1990s under coach Bobby Dye. Dye led the team to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 1994. This era also featured a number of notable players, including Tanoka Beard, who is still the Broncos' all-time leading scorer, and Chris Childs, who went on to play in the NBA.
Following Dye's tenure, the Broncos had a period of relative struggles, but they were able to bounce back under coach Greg Graham. Graham led the team to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2002 to 2004, and the team also won the Western Athletic Conference tournament in 2002.
The Broncos have continued to be a competitive team in the Mountain West Conference under current head coach Leon Rice. Rice took over the program in 2010 and has led the team to six NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2013. The Broncos have also won the Mountain West Conference regular season title three times under Rice.
The team has a number of talented players currently, including Derrick Alston Jr, who was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in 2020, and Justinian Jessup, who is the Broncos' all-time leader in three-point field goals made. The team also has a strong recruiting class coming in for the 2021-2022 season, which should help them continue to be a competitive team in the conference.
Off the court, the Broncos have a strong fan base that supports the team through thick and thin. The team plays its home games at ExtraMile Arena, which has a capacity of 12,480, and the arena is often packed with fans wearing blue and orange, the team's colors.
The Boise State Broncos men's basketball team has a rich history of success and a bright future ahead. With a talented coach and a strong group of players, the Broncos are poised to continue competing at a high level in the Mountain West Conference and beyond.
